Sharon R. Thetford, Psy.D.
“If you help one person, you’re changing the world, because you’re helping to change that person’s world.”
Astute and compassionate are two words patients use to describe Dr. Sharon R. Thetford. Years of training and clinical practice have given Dr. Thetford the skills necessary to get to the core of difficulties and find the best treatment for each patient’s unique concerns and challenges. This process includes putting together all the pieces and “seeing the details in the big picture and the big picture in the details.” Dr. Thetford knew from a young age that she wanted to help people after watching a movie about a child who received help from a psychologist. From that point on, she worked to achieve that dream.
Dr. Thetford believes in the importance of creating a joyful and fulfilling life by setting and achieving goals and using life’s lessons. She helps her patients reach their potential using therapies such as EMDR and Neurofeedback as well as traditional psychotherapy.
Dr. Thetford helps her patients move in the right direction and make the needed shifts in their lives. After working with her, patients can expect an improvement in their ability to deal with life stressors and handle challenges that occur.
“My job is most rewarding when a child who would barely talk or make eye contact on their initial visit hugs me and says, ‘thank you’ or when a patient tells me that he didn’t know that his life could feel this good.”
Dr. Thetford has been in clinical private practice for 28 years. Her patients range in age and come from all backgrounds. She uses EMDR to work with patients who have experienced trauma and loves the results that Neurofeedback brings to cases of ADD / ADHD, anxiety, depression, anger issues, emotional dysregulation and Tourette Syndrome.
She also conducts 8-week parenting classes at her practice, New Objectives Psychology, Counseling & Neurofeedback Center in Altamonte Springs, where she serves as director.
